FAQ

KCACTF Region 2 Membership

How does an Institution become a member?

Member institutions are schools and universities within the Regional Boundaries that have registered and paid for a production response during the calendar year preceding the festival.  These registration fees help to supplement festival registrations and keep costs reasonable for attendees.

I am an individual, how can I be a member?

If you are affiliated with a member institution, you are a member. KCACTF does not offer individual memberships.

Students must be matriculated in a degree or certificate granting program in order to be considered affiliated with the institution.

I am not from a member institution, can I still come to festival?

ABSOLUTELY-

Anyone is able to attend and take part in the festival and activities.  However, to be eligible for Regional and National Recognition in individual programs, students must be matriculated at a member institution or pay the supplemental program fee.  Students that are not from a member institution and opt not to pay the fee, will not be eligible for Regional and National Awards, however, you can still participate in programming

I am not from a member institution, why is there a surcharge?

Member institutions are schools and universities within the Regional Boundaries that have registered and paid for a production response during the calendar year preceding the festival.  These registration fees help to supplement festival registrations and keep costs reasonable for attendees.

Festival Participation & Eligibility

What does KCACTF define as a student?

A bona fide student is:

  • An undergraduate student* registered for at least six semester or equivalent quarter hours;
  • A graduate student* registered for at least three semester or equivalent quarter hours;
  • Or a continuing part-time student* enrolled in a regular degree or certificate program.

*Undergraduate, graduate, and continuing part-time students must be matriculating and pursuing a degree at the time of the KCACTF official response.

Students that graduated or completed their programs in the immediately preceding calendar and who met the above requirements during their final term are also considered eligible.

Does my school have to get a response for me to participate?

See Membership questions above.

Do I have to be nominated during a production response?

See the individual requirements for each program.  Most allow self-nominations.

Individual Programs

What do you mean by programs?

The festival is made up of workshops, invited productions, and individual programs. These programs allow students to earn Regional and National recognition. Acting Scholarships (Irene Ryans), ITJA (Institute for Theatrical Journalism), DTM (Design, Tecnology & Management), Devised, Dramaturgy, MTI (Musical Theatre Intensive), NPP (National Playwriting Program), SDC Society of Directors & Choreographers), and ASPIRE (Arts Admin) are the programs.

Can I participate in multiple programs?

YES, and many do.

Area program coordinators will attempt to work with all participants to try to allow you to do as many programs as you want.  Please understand that this may not always be feasible.  If you have questions, please reach out to the program contacts on our Contact Us page.

Does my school have to get a response for me to participate?

See Membership questions above.

I am registered for Festival, do I need to sign up for an individual program?

Most programs require participants to sign-up ahead of Festival, usually by December 15th.  See program specifics here.Â
