FESTIVAL 56 INVITED PRODUCTIONS

Howard Community College Presents:

Medea

By Euripides

Adapted and Directed by Jenny Male

This exciting production fuses traditional Greek theatre with the movement style of Randai using live percussion, dance, and shadow-play.  Medea, who left her home and family for her husband Jason, discovers that Jason has agreed to marry King Creon’s daughter Glauce.  Jason claims that he is only thinking of what is best for Medea and their two children.  Medea mourns and rages…  and devises a plan to punish them all.

Point Park University

Conservatory Theatre Company Presents:

≈ [Almost Equal To]

Directed by Adil Mansoor

How much do you earn? Who do you serve? In Jonas Hassen Khemiri’s recent play ≈[Almost Equal To] we encounter a number of people who are colliding with the economy surrounding them. ≈ [Almost Equal To] is a funny and brutal play that tries (and fails?) to give the audience a maximized entertainment value for every dollar invested.

Bowie State University Presents:

BUY BLACK! We don’t sell to your kind

by Raymond Ingram

Co-directed by Brielle Bertrand and Malaysha Sabria

Change, it’s a good thing, right? Who wouldn’t want change – it benefits all…right? Maybe, and maybe it can hurt more than ever expected. Change can tear apart from the inside and break down communities that took generations to build up. Make a stop at Prints & Kicks, a Black-owned pop-up clothing shop that seemingly blew up overnight. Yet can this spark of success be maintained when gentrification creeps up around the corner? Written by BSU student Raymond Ingram, this story shares how the power of unity and community can make the difference when the going gets tough.

Penn State Harrisburg Presents:

Clue

by Sandy Rustin

Directed by Maria Soyla Enriquez

Based on the iconic Paramount movie inspired by the Hasbro board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder-mystery. The tale begins in a remote mansion at an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu, where you must try to figure out… WHO did it, WHERE, and with WHAT! This production will offer an interactive style that brings audiences into the world of the play with an audience participation component.

Slippery Rock University Presents:

Grecian Burns

by Omri Schein and Daniel M. Lincoln
