Angels in America: Millennium Approaches

It’s the 1980s. President Reagan sits in the White House while the AIDS crisis rages on. Caught in the middle are a Valium-addicted Mormon, her closeted lawyer husband, and two men ripped apart by an AIDS diagnosis. This is a story about fighting for survival, love, politics and God. In 1993, Angels in America, written by Tony Kushner, won the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Pipeline delves into the all-to-real challenges of students caught in America’s broken education system which actively works against disinvested communities and students of color. Live and virtual audiences are placed directly into the space where the drama happens – surrounded by the gates and walls that seem to confine the learner rather than foster growth. Pipeline’s directing team is led by graduating senior Sahira Parker, who shares this story of a mother’s immeasurable love, using her parental resilience, patience, and strength to provide protection and support for her son.

With puppets and pool noodles, this theater group prepares for their glorious comeback … that may not happen.

The boundaries of Elliot’s Latinx family and community are stretched across continents and cyberspace as birth families splinter and online families collide. Water by the Spoonful is a heartfelt and poetic meditation on lives on the brink of redemption and self-discovery during a time of heightened uncertainty.
Water by the Spoonful is a collaboration between the Department of Theatre and Music Studies and the Rochester Latino Theatre Company (RLTC).
